Stress Management Techniques That Work

Stress is part of life—but how you respond to it is a skill you can train with small, repeatable practices.

Start Small, Stay Consistent

Pick one technique to practice daily for a week. Once it becomes automatic, add another. This creates reliable tools you can use when life gets intense.

1) Box Breathing (4–4–4–4)

Inhale 4 seconds, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4. Repeat for 2–5 minutes.

2) A 5-Minute Reset

  • Stand up and stretch shoulders/hips
  • Drink water
  • Write the next single task on a sticky note

3) Mindful Walking

Walk for 5–10 minutes. Notice breathing, posture, and the rhythm of steps. When your mind wanders, gently return to the sensations.

4) Sleep and Caffeine Boundaries

  • Try a consistent wind-down routine
  • Avoid caffeine late in the day
  • Get morning light exposure when possible

Try This Today

Set a timer for 2 minutes and do box breathing. Then write down your next single action.
